The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.

Welcome to the University of Memphis! You've made the right choice in your university; now let us help you make another choice with the right fraternity.

In the manual of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, there is a chapter that asks "Why Fraternity?" As the chapter goes through many explanations it can be summed up into three main ideas: friendship, honor, and loyalty.

While our chapter strongly possesses each quality, every brother will tell you the main idea that has always been the driving force behind our success has always been friendship. If you were to take away all of our possessions, SAE will always live on at this university because of the bonds that extend far beyond our campus. And we only hope that you have the oppurtunity to experience everything we have to offer. So good luck on making the right choice, and congratulations on going Greek!
